Buying a phone has always entailed the not-so-pleasant procedure of “moving” from an old device to a new one, but recently the need for synchronization and other personal information has been added to the traditional transfer of contacts. It’s good if your next smartphone is on the same platform as the previous one, but if you decide to “cross over to the enemy camp,” then the task becomes much more complicated. In this material we will look at two options for transferring data - from iOS to Android and in the opposite direction.

iOS → ANDROID

iOS can synchronize contacts, calendar and mail with a Google account, and if you have previously chosen Gmail as your mailbox, there is nothing to worry about - just log into your account on your Android smartphone, and all your information will immediately become available on a new phone.

If you did not expect to “move” from iOS in the future, then most likely this data is tied to iCloud, in which case the procedure will be somewhat more complicated.

Contacts

To transfer contacts on your phone, you need to connect your iCloud account and enable their synchronization (settings – iCloud – (log in to your account) – enable Contacts). Now they need to be “pulled out” from the cloud - to do this, open the page www.icloud.com on your computer, log in to your account, then go to the Contacts item and select the necessary contacts.

After that, in the menu called up by pressing the gear button, select Export vCard, and a VCF file with a list of contacts will be downloaded to your computer. Now open the page www.google.com/contacts, in the left menu, select the “Import contacts” item and open the downloaded VCF file (if you already have a preliminary version of the updated “Contacts” available, in which import does not yet work, you need to open the “More” list in a similar menu on the left, and select import, after which you will be asked to switch to the old version of this service). After this, all that remains is to enable contact synchronization in the settings of the new Android smartphone.

Calendar

Transferring events in a user calendar looks very similar - in the iCloud settings we enable calendar synchronization, on the website www.icloud.com we go to the appropriate section and in the list of available calendars we click on the Share icon to the right of its name. In the menu that appears, enable the Public Calendar option and copy the link that appears (webcal://….). We paste it into the address bar of the new page, replace webcal with http, and then press Enter - as a result, a file with a name of hundreds of characters and without an extension is downloaded to the computer. This is a regular text file, which can easily be given a more decent name. To connect it to Google Calendar, open the page www.google.com/calendar, find the Other Calendars item, select Import calendar in the drop-down menu and open the just downloaded file from your computer - after that, all the events from it will be added to your calendar on your Google account.

Mail

There shouldn’t be any problems with “moving” your mailbox - if you use iCloud (or any other service) rather than Gmail, just find any client that supports it on Google Play - for example, Mailbox or myMail.

Bookmarks

Here we will consider the most common option - using the standard Safari browser on iOS and “moving” to Chrome and Firefox, popular on Android.

Transferring bookmarks from Safari is also carried out using iCloud (in the device settings, of course, you need to enable their synchronization), however, for this, it is not the resource website that is used, but the iCloud for Windows client.

In it you need to select “Bookmarks”, specify the browser (Chrome or Firefox) in the options, click Apply and select Merge. After this, the utility will offer to download the iCloud Bookmarks extension for one of these browsers, and as a result, your bookmarks from mobile Safari will appear in the desktop browser. If you chose Chrome, you don’t need to do anything further (provided that you are logged into your Google account). With Firefox, the task will be somewhat more complicated (especially if you have not used synchronization of user data in this browser before) - you need to set up synchronization in it, for which you need to log into your Firefox account (or create one), do the same on your Android smartphone and enter the code received there in your desktop browser.

If you don’t want to install iCloud for Windows, you can use iTunes instead (to do this, syncing bookmarks with iCloud must be turned off in your smartphone’s settings). To do this, you need to connect your iPhone to your PC, launch iTunes, open the device page in it, go to the “Information” tab, find the “Other” item in it and select “Sync bookmarks with:” (where there may be Internet Explorer and Safari options) , then click “Apply”. Now the bookmarks from the iPhone are combined with the bookmarks of one of these desktop browsers - you just need to launch it and export the bookmarks to an HTML file, and then import them in the standard way into the desktop versions of Chrome or Firefox, from where they are “sent” to Android in the manner described in the previous paragraph -smartphone.

Photo/video

To transfer photos/videos, you can use the Google+ Photos service - to do this, you need to install the official Google+ client on your iPhone, connect to your Google account and enable auto-upload for photos and videos, and then select the “Download all photos and videos” option. Once the download is complete, you will be able to see all your content in the Photos app on your new Android smartphone. If you do not want to use the Google+ service, you can perform this procedure without connecting to the Internet at all. To do this, you need to connect your iPhone to your computer via USB, open Explorer, right-click on the smartphone icon in the list of devices and drives and select “Import images and videos.” After this, an import window will appear in which you can configure the parameters of this procedure (select a folder, delete files after copying is completed, etc.). Now you just need to connect your Android smartphone to your PC and use Explorer to copy the resulting folder to its memory (or to an SD card).

Music

Perhaps one of the most difficult tasks when “moving” is, of course, if your music library is stored in iTunes, and not in the form of MP3 tracks organized into folders (in this case, the whole task comes down to simply copying files from your PC to your smartphone using any file manager).

Google itself recommends using its Google Play Music player, which can upload your iTunes library to its “cloud”, from which you can then listen to it not only on an Android smartphone, but also in a browser on a PC. To do this, you will have to install the Google Music Manager utility on your PC and indicate in it that your music library is in the iTunes library, and then wait for the download to complete (in total, the service currently allows you to download up to 50 thousand tracks, which will be more than enough for any user ).

If streaming your own music over the Internet doesn’t appeal to you, and you don’t want to bother with downloading each album separately (or you use another audio player instead of Google Play Music), you’ll have to turn to one of the third-party utilities. Unfortunately, they usually turn out to be shareware - such as iSyncr. This procedure can also be performed using the DoubleTwist audio player, for which there is a desktop client with an interface similar to iTunes.

ANDROID → iOS

As noted at the beginning of the article, iOS can synchronize contacts, calendar and mail with a Google account, so if you used it on an Android smartphone, the task of “moving” from Android to iOS will be much easier than in the opposite direction.

Contacts

If your contacts on your old phone are linked to a Google account, transferring them will be a breeze. First, you need to make sure that contact synchronization is enabled on your Android smartphone (most likely, Settings – General – Accounts & Sync), and that the smartphone itself has connected to the Internet at least once since you last edited your contacts. Now it’s enough to add a new Gmail account in the iPhone settings (Settings - Mail, addresses, calendars) and enable synchronization for all available items (Mail, Contacts, Calendars, Notes) - after which everything listed will appear in the new smartphone.

If you stored contacts locally, in the phone itself, then the task becomes a little more complicated - in the standard dialer you must first export all such contacts to a separate VCF file (to internal memory or to an SD card), and then import them back, but not to the phone memory, but to a Google account. Further actions, as you might guess, repeat the procedure described above. If your contacts application does not support import/export of all records en masse, you will have to edit each contact individually, manually transferring it to your Google account.

If you want to finally break with the “Google past,” you should import your contacts into iCloud. To do this, we create a copy of them in a VCF file (either on the phone, as described above, or on the website contacts.google.com, where you need to select the vCard format), and then import it on the page www.icloud.com/#contacts (menu call settings using the gear button and the Import vCard item). Note that in the first case, you may receive an error message “Unable to import vCard” without any explanation - most likely this means that your VCF file was created in 2.x format, while iCloud requires the version not lower than 3.0.

Calendar

Google Calendar automatically connects to your new iPhone along with your contacts, mail, and notes (following the same steps above), so you don't need to take any additional steps (except make sure that your Google account settings for Calendar are also set to sync in your iOS settings). .

If you plan to give up your Google account, you should import the calendar into iCloud, and this is no longer such a trivial task. Of course, if you have a Mac, everything is simple - on the page www.google.com/calendar you need to select the desired calendar, in its settings, click on the ical button in the “Private calendar address” section, copy the proposed URL, paste it in a new tab and press Enter - after this an ICS file will be copied to your computer, which needs to be “fed” to the system application Calendar.

For owners of Windows-based PCs, everything is more complicated - they will have to use iTunes and Microsoft Outlook for this purpose, since iTunes can only synchronize calendars with this program. You will need to import the resulting file into Outlook, then connect your iPhone to your PC, open iTunes on your device’s tab, go to the “Information” sub-item and select the desired calendar in the “Sync calendars” section. Another option is a third-party utility - for example, Copy My Data (Android, iOS), which can transfer not only the calendar, but also contacts, and photos/videos.

Mail

Of course, the easiest way is to continue using your old Gmail account, but you can also create a new @icloud.com account. To do this, in the iOS settings, select the iCloud section and turn on the Mail application in it - after that you will be prompted to register a new mailbox. And in order to receive correspondence sent to the old address, you need to enable redirection for it - in Gmail, call up the settings (gear in the upper right corner), in which, in the “Forwarding and POP/IMAP” tab, add a new iCloud address using the button “ Add forwarding address." After that, a confirmation email will be sent to it - click on the link, return to the Gmail settings and make sure that the correct address is indicated in the line “Forward copies of incoming messages to addresses:”, then click “Save changes”.

Bookmarks

Most likely, on Android you used Chrome, but on iOS you will switch to Safari (if you plan to continue using Chrome on iOS, you don’t need to read this section further - the browser itself will synchronize your bookmarks on the new device).

So, in Chrome, select the bookmark manager (Ctrl-Shift-O), click on the gear in the upper right corner and select “Export bookmarks”. We import the resulting HTML file into Internet Explorer, after which we connect the iPhone to the PC, launch iTunes and select “Sync bookmarks with: Internet Explorer” in the device properties. Just below, in the “Add-ons” section, check the box next to bookmarks and click “Apply” - after that your bookmarks will appear in mobile Safari.

Photo/video

Everything is simple here. We connect the Android smartphone to the PC via USB, copy photo and video files to any folder on the hard drive (usually they are located on the device in the DCIM folder), then connect the iPhone, launch iTunes, go to the “Photos” tab in the device menu and turn on synchronization, after which we select the folder in which the necessary files are located. If it contains a video, additionally check the box next to “Include video in synchronization.”

If you don’t have iTunes (and don’t want to install it), you can use third-party synchronization utilities - for example, the already mentioned Copy My Data, or PhotoSync (Android, iOS).

Music

Transferring music, like photos/videos, is also carried out simply, and according to the same scheme. The music library is copied from the Android smartphone to the PC, dragged into iTunes, after which synchronization is performed in the settings of the connected iPhone on the “Music” tab - either the entire library en masse, or only selected artists.

Results

As you can see, the procedure for transferring personal data, although quite troublesome, is ultimately solvable - after it all that remains is to “transfer” your favorite applications, or rather, install their versions for the new platform or find the most suitable analogues. However, this is a topic for a separate article.

You can transfer your database from iOS to Android (or vice versa) using a one-time code that is created in the game. To do this, you need to have both devices (iOS and Android) at your fingertips.

To transfer the database, the account on the Apple device must be connected to Game Center, and the game on the Android device must be connected to Google+.

Today in the IT market there is a global confrontation between users of products from one of the largest companies on the planet, Apple, with the iOS operating system, and those who give their preference to other brands of phones, which most often have the Android platform installed.

Often a situation arises when representatives of one of these two warring camps want to taste the “forbidden fruit” - try to use a device with a different operating system, be it a smartphone or a tablet. What's stopping them? Basically - the fear of moving, associated, as they think, with the huge amount of time that it will take to transfer data (contacts, photos, mail, music and movies) from one device to another running on a different operating system.

In fact, as noted, the problem is not worth a damn, and recently it has become even easier to solve than ever.

Migration from Android to iOS

In principle, even before September 2015, there were quite accessible tools that did an excellent job of transferring all data from devices running Android to Apple products. And now the first official application has appeared, which the developers of the Apple company released for the Android operating system.

This application is called (“Transfer to iOS”) and, as you might guess, its main and only function is to make a painless move from Android to iOS. To move without problems, you just need to buy a new iPhone and install the Move to iOS application on your old device, launching it before performing the initial settings on your iPhone or iPad.

After launching the application on your Android device, you can begin setting up the Apple device. During setup, you will be prompted to move if necessary. Then all that remains is to enter the PIN code displayed on the screen of one device into the corresponding line flashing on the screen of the other, and the move will start in full swing.

Interestingly, during the migration, the data will not be sent to the cloud or to other servers outside the room in which the operation is performed. The devices will communicate with each other via Wi-Fi wireless communication. All you have to do is wait a little, and all your personal data (photos and videos, messages, Google account data, contacts, calendars and browser bookmarks) will be transferred to your Apple device. Moreover, the application will even analyze all programs installed on Android, and if there are analogues for iOS, install them on your new device.

Migration from iOS to Android

As hard as it may be for Apple to admit, there are also users who decide to test an Android device. What should they do in this case?

It's simple. True, instead of one application you will still have to use several. The first of them is the standard client of the Google+ social network, with which you can transfer photos from one device to another. Install this application on iOS, open it, log in using your Gmail account, open the menu, then click on the gear icon in the upper right corner and select “Camera and Photos”. Next, set the switch opposite the “Startup” item to the “on” position. After this, all photos will be automatically uploaded to the cloud and will be available to the Android device that is running under the same Gmail account.

Music can be transferred using the Google program. First, you need to go to the Google Play website and download the music download manager. After this, synchronize your device with iTunes on your computer so that all the music is on your hard drive. Next, we log in to the manager with our Google account, after which we transfer our entire music library from iTunes to Google in one click, as shown in the video instructions below.

To complete the work, you will have to create a Google wallet. But don't worry, the program is free to use, and the wallet will still come in handy when you want to buy music on your new device.

The transfer of email contacts and archived letters will occur automatically after you enter the login and password of your Gmail account in the email client on your new device.

The most difficult step concerns transferring contacts from iOS to Android. To do this, you need to create a special file that will contain all contacts. This can be done using the iCloud cloud service. First, you need to go to the device settings, click on the menu item “Mail, contacts, calendars”, there in the “Accounts” section we find the inscription iCloud. Open this item and move the switch opposite the “Contacts” item to the “on” position. After that, open the iCloud page (apple.com/icloud) in the browser on your computer, log in, select “Contacts” and use the wheel in the lower left corner to select all contacts and click “Export vCard”. The system will offer to save the file to your hard drive, which is what we do. After this, all you need to do is go to your Gmail account in the browser and click “Mail” in the upper left corner and select “Contacts”. Next in the menu we find the item “Advanced” - “Import” - “Select file”. In the window that opens, select the file that we just saved to disk. After this, your contacts will be automatically saved to Gmail and synced with your Android device.

Applications that were on the Apple device on the new device? you will have to install it manually.

So, you're sick and tired of the closed iOS ecosystem and the stranglehold Apple has on its platform. If so, Android welcomes you with open arms, but as you move to the new platform, don't forget to grab your junk.

Apple doesn't provide an easy way to transfer data from iOS to Android - the company is more interested in the reverse transition. However, with a couple of useful tools and patience, you can transfer all your data without losing a single file.

Contacts

If you've been using Apple devices for a long time, you have the advantage of syncing contacts with iCloud. This makes it easy to log into iOS and access your address book, so you can easily transfer data to your Android device.

First, you'll need to make sure all your contacts are in iCloud: go to your iPhone's main settings and open the iCloud menu. Just make sure you're logged in and drag the switch next to Contacts to the on position.

Then go to the iCloud website and open your contact manager. In the lower right corner you will see a gear icon - click on it and select all your contacts, then use the same button to select "Export vCard". This file will contain all your saved contacts, so don't leave it anywhere.

This is where the Find Similar Contacts feature (in the left menu of Google Contacts) can come in handy, which will find duplicates in your contact list.

Photos and videos

Google recently launched a new photo and video manager for Android and iOS, so this procedure will also be easy. All you need to do is download the Google Photos app from the App Store and sign in using your Google account.

In settings you'll find a backup and sync section - just go to the menu and turn on the photo backup feature. For photos up to 16 megapixels and videos up to 1080p it will be free. Google calls this “high quality,” which will compress images that are too large. If you want to keep your photos intact, then you have that option. However, this may go against your Google Drive upload limit because... Each user receives only 15 GB of free space for free. When you first launch the application, you will be prompted with this information.

Google can download your videos and photos directly from your iPhone.
Using the above procedure, all photos and videos from your phone will be saved online and available on all Android devices. But this only applies to the content available on the device. But you may also want to save files deleted from the device that are stored in the iCloud library. Make sure your iCloud library is synced to your computer using the iCloud client, then go to photos.google.com. You can upload files by dragging them from your computer into your browser window.

As for videos, this procedure will only help you when copying videos that you shot. Any video content you purchase from iTunes is protected by digital intellectual property rights management, so you won't be able to use it on third-party devices. Bummer.

Bookmarks

If you spend any time surfing the Internet, then most likely you have saved bookmarks in the mobile version of the Safari browser that you would also like to transfer to another device. As usual, Apple tried to make this procedure as difficult as possible. The easiest and fastest way is to use the iCloud client on your computer.

Make sure you have Safari sync checked in your phone's iCloud settings, then go to your computer and open iCloud. One of the synchronization points will be Bookmarks. For synchronization to take place directly through Chrome, it must be installed on your computer. If you decide that you will use the Firefox browser on your phone, you can transfer bookmarks directly into it. Both browsers have the function of synchronizing online and mobile versions.

Remember: if you've been using the Chrome browser all the time on iOS, then all the work has already been done for you: bookmarks from Chrome are automatically synchronized between different devices. The Firefox browser is not yet available on iOS, so if you want to use it on Android, you will have to go through the synchronization procedure described above.

Mail

If you used the Gmail client on your iPhone, then you can safely skip this point: all your mail will appear on the new operating system when you log into your Google account. If you use iCloud mail, you don't have to give up your address because many manufacturers have universal email apps that allow you to add different IMAP accounts (like iCloud). The Gmail app now also has this feature.

Calendar

iOS Calendar doesn't have an export feature, so you'll need to check out another iCloud trick to help you transfer your data to Google Calendar.

After going to this address, you will automatically download an ICS file, which you can use to import the calendar into your Google account. In Google Calendar, click on the “Other Calendars” tab in the left menu of the site and select “Import Calendar”. In the menu that opens, you only need to find and select the downloaded ICS file.

Music

Google Play Music is the equivalent of iTunes for Android devices; it recognizes songs in MP3, WMA, FLAC, AAC, OGG formats, and you can download up to 50,000 songs.
But because the iPhone doesn't have a fully accessible file system, you won't find it easy to export files from your device there. The fastest way to switch to Play Music is to use iTunes to sync your music library with your computer, then upload it to the Google cloud.

If you have a relatively small music collection, you can download all your songs by simply going to the Play Music website and dragging them into your browser window. To download larger collections, download the Google Music Manager desktop app. To download files, you will need to specify the required iTunes library in the downloads tab.

Apple has been selling music that isn't protected by digital intellectual property rights for years now, but if your library only contains protected files, there's no way you can transfer them to Play Music.

Applications and games

One of the reasons people stay loyal to iOS is the huge selection of apps and games, but in recent years Android has caught up with its rival. However, you won't find a way to directly transfer apps and games from iPhone to Android: the operating systems are incompatible, and there's no way yet to prove that you've already purchased an app on iOS. If you want the same content, you will need to purchase it again.

Common apps like Facebook, WhatsApp and Pandora are also available on Android. To quickly find them, go to the "Top Apps" tab. To find a specific application, you will have to do a little searching. Calendar

Now let's move the calendar data from iPhone to Android. Transferring events from a user calendar is done as follows. Let's go to iCloud settings, where you need to allow calendar synchronization. On the resource www.icloud.com, go to the appropriate section and in the list of available calendars look for the Share icon located to the right of its name. In the menu that appears, select the Public Calendar option, and then copy the link (webcal://….). Open a new page in your browser and paste it into the address bar. Replace Webcal with http, Enter. Bookmarks

The question of how to transfer data from iPhone to Android smoothly moved on to bookmarks. We will analyze the classic option, because most iOS users use the Safari browser and “switch” to Chrome or Firefox on the Android OS. Data transfer from Safari is also carried out using the iCloud service (we first enable synchronization in the device settings). But you need to do this not using the website, but through the iCloud application for your computer.

First of all, you will need to activate synchronization, for which we log into your Firefox account or register it. We do the same on an Android phone and enter the received code in the browser.
If you do not want to install iCloud on your computer, you can use iTunes instead. But there is one peculiarity - you need to activate synchronization with iCloud in the smartphone settings. For this purpose, connect the iPhone to the PC, turn on iTunes and open the device page in it. Select the “Information” tab, where we find the “Other” item. Next, select “Synchronize bookmarks from Safari browser” and click “Apply”. After these steps, the bookmarks from your iPhone are combined with the bookmarks of one of your desktop browsers - you just need to turn it on, export the bookmarks to an HTML file and import it using the standard method into the desktop versions of Chrome or Firefox.
