Mobile Internet in Crimea: features of work. Internet providers in Crimea sharply increased prices for Beeline, Megafon and Tele2 services in Crimea

Crimeans are complaining en masse about a sharp rise in the cost of services of local Internet providers, as reported by Kommersant. The Federal Antimonopoly Service is looking into the situation, but it is already clear that the main reason is the need to comply with the Yarovaya Law. In Crimea, they are especially carefully monitoring its implementation; it is possible that in the coming months, tariff increases will be observed in other regions.

Now all home Internet providers are required to provide information about price increases from the beginning of the year until March 25 to the antimonopoly service. A copy of the certificate letter states that the service reviews all civil applications for violations of antitrust laws. The same was confirmed by the FAS press service.

Requests from the antimonopoly service were received by ten providers in the region, according to the consulting company OrderCom. The company's general director, Dmitry Galushko, confirmed that subscribers have expressed massive dissatisfaction with the significant increase in tariffs (1.5 - 2 times) since the beginning of this year. Also, residents of the Sevastopol region publicly complained on the website of the head of Crimea Sergei Aksenov about the local Internet provider “Crimea-Online”. According to them, tariffs have increased by 450 - 750 rubles in just a month. Denis Kamyshev, a deputy of the municipal formation of the Kolchuginsky rural settlement of Simferopol, is also concerned about the total increase in discontent of the local population, and therefore sent a letter to the head of the district administration.

According to one of the communications market players in Crimea, he confirmed information about rising prices for Internet service providers. But according to his estimates, the increase was no more than 25%. “This is due to an increase in tariffs of mainline operators operating on the peninsula,” he claims. Dmitry Galushko reported that the price increase is associated with the demands of infrastructure owners (cable sewers, power transmission line supports, etc.) to enter into agreements with providers and raise tariffs. On the Crimea-Online website you can see a notice about an increase in the cost of renting poles of the State Unitary Enterprise "Krymenergo" by 2.5 times.

Also, do not forget about the “Yarovaya Law,” which came into force on July 1, 2018. According to which all operators are required to store data of telephone conversations, messages, sounds and images, including video.

“Due to the political situation in the region, security authorities began to demand the implementation of data storage systems and compliance with legal requirements in Crimea, however, a similar situation will arise for all Russian telecom operators closer to the beginning of 2020,” explains Galushko. There will definitely be further increases in prices for communication services after the FSB authorities begin to impose demands on operators under the “Yarovaya Law”.

Crimean operators are reluctant to make contact and many of them refuse to make any comments on this topic. Back in May last year, some Russian providers began to increase prices by 8-10%. Comfortel St. Petersburg, Dom.ru Perm and Rostelecom warned about this in advance.

“Across the country, providers in one way or another bring tariffs to conditions in which they could continue to exist and develop,” notes General Director of TMT Consulting Konstantin Ankilov. But he also claims that they will not be able to raise prices above a certain level, since they have to exist in conditions of fierce competition. At the same time, if tariff increases cause dissatisfaction with the FAS, operators will always be able to objectively justify the situation.

It is worth noting that in 2018, Russia remained in the top 10 countries with the lowest cost of mobile traffic. Over the seven months of last year, 1 GB of traffic for mobile devices began to cost about 15% less. Perhaps current trends will force Russian operators to raise communication prices.

As for other countries, in Romania. Here 1 GB of traffic costs only 9.2 rubles. This is followed by Poland (22.8 rubles), India (23.9 rubles). But the most expensive mobile traffic is in countries such as South Korea, where the price of 1 GB reaches 659.8 rubles, the UAE (769.2 rubles), Canada (1137 rubles) and Switzerland (1179.7 rubles).

In the Republic of Crimea, mobile companies operate differently than in other regions of Russia. This is most likely due to the sanctions facing cellular companies. Mobile Internet in Crimea operates through local cellular companies “Win mobile” - Beeline, Megafon, Tele2 work through it; "Volna Mobile" - MTS works with it; Krymtelecom does not provide services in the city of Sevastopol; “SevMobile” operates exclusively within Sevastopol. But all mobile operators in Crimea have their own characteristics, let’s look at them.

Crimeanmobile operators

If mobile Internet is vital for you, and your stay in the region promises to be long: you simply need to use the services of one of the local companies.

Let's take a closer look at what conditions they offer in this area:

  • The mobile operator “Winmbile” has a special “Forsazh” tariff for the Internet for 400 rubles. per month - 15 GB of traffic;
  • The Volna Mobile company also has a special tariff “Wind”, its cost is 300 rubles. per month for 10 GB of traffic;
  • You can activate an additional Internet service from the Krymtelecom operator for 200 rubles. per month for 10 GB of traffic, it is important to know that this operator does not operate in Sevastopol;
  • The mobile operator SevMobile has an Internet option costing 300 rubles. for 10 GB of traffic, besides, this operator does not work well outside the city of Sevastopol.

MTS in Crimea

The MTS company operates on the territory of the peninsula, although it belongs to the Krasnodar Territory region. There are two options: the first is to buy a SIM card directly in Crimea; the second is to use a card purchased in your home region. When purchasing a SIM card in Crimea, you must select one of the Smart tariffs; all of them have a package of Internet services.

  • Smartmini 1 GB 350 rub. per month;
  • Smart 5 GB 500 rub. per month;
  • Smartb unlimited 10 GB 550 rub. per month;
  • Smart + 7 GB 250 rub. in Week.

ImportantRemember that on the territory of the peninsula you can buy a SIM card only in large cities, and even there there are not many cellular phone stores there.

For the Internet, it is recommended to activate the “SuperBIT” service, it will help reduce costs.
When using a SIM card from your home region with any Smart tariff (except mini), 15 rubles are debited. per day as a subscription fee. At the same time, the Internet package remains the same as in the home region.

Beeline, Megafon and Tele2 in Crimea

Mobile operators Beeline, Megafon and Tele2 do not officially operate in Crimea, their SIM cards are not sold, and the tariffs and options that apply in other regions of Russia do not work. Their subscribers are subject to intranet roaming. All this significantly increases the cost of mobile communications. Although Megafon and Tele2 have special options for Crimea, this only slightly improves the situation.

Regarding the Beeline company, it should be noted that the option “7 (or 30) days of Internet for traveling around Russia” does not work in Crimea. The “My Country” service is also not available on the peninsula. The price for using the Internet depends on the tariff chosen in your region.

Eg:

  • For tariffs “All for 500 (800; 1200; 1800)” 3 rubles. for 1 MB;
  • For the “All for 300” tariff it is more expensive than 9.95 rubles.

In the Megafon company, the cost of 1 mg when located on the territory of the republic is 9.90 rubles. When the “Crimea” option is activated, 1 mg costs 5 rubles, but 15 rubles are charged. per day.

The Tele2 company has a special service “Like home in Crimea,” but it does not affect the cost of mobile Internet in any way, but only removes the fee for incoming calls. In any case, the cost for 1 MB is 5 rubles. If you stay in the region for a long time, using the services of these companies is not advisable.
