Previously, the website LiguaLeo helped me learn words; it is quite an interesting and versatile resource. He has interesting exercises for memorizing new words, but unfortunately you have to pay for everything, so not all workouts are available. Although many of those available are quite effective. That's why I use LiguaLeo for other purposes.

My friend, who went to study the language in Canada, recommended the English with Words app to me. According to her, the application effectively helps to learn words and is very convenient. I downloaded it.

At first I downloaded it and it just hung on my phone, constantly reminding me of itself with notifications. I deliberately ignored him. All because I already had the LiguaLeo application installed on my smartphone and got used to using it.

However, LiguaLeo requires an Internet connection, and then one day I ran out of traffic on my phone, and there was no free wi-fi, I decided to use the English language with Words application .

▢ ▣ ◘ ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES ◙ ▢ ▣

What I liked:

• The first thing to note is The application can be used offline . In other words, without an Internet connection. By the way, thanks to this, the battery charge in the phone is not consumed so quickly.

• Simple settings .In general, the application itself is simple, even a child can figure it out.

• You can turn on a reminder , I have a “word of the day” at 10 am))

• Large application vocabulary . About 8 thousand words. You can use the word search.

• All words are divided into topics

The topics start with food and drinks, which in my opinion are the simplest, then they go on to more complex ones. There are quite a lot of topics, I still haven’t gotten through them all the way through.

• The workouts are interesting and effective

Well, here are the first shortcomings :

• In the free version, as it later turned out, only 5 lessons from the first topic are available. It's no good that I need these 5 lessons, so I decided to purchase the paid version.

The full version was supposedly at a discount for 399 rubles, but I’m sure that’s what it costs. I definitely wouldn’t buy for 699, I’d rather pay the same amount at LiguaLeo. For this money, I would have access to not only paid training, but also entire courses.

But for 399 rubles, I still decided to purchase the application and did not regret it.

• Many synonym words are difficult to train, since the words and the translation are tied to each other . It is difficult to choose the correct meaning; in an application, a word that has several correct translations may not be correct. I don’t know if I explained it clearly, this can be clearly understood by considering the principles on which the training is based.

▢ ▣ ◘ WORKOUT ◙ ▢ ▣

• The lesson begins with cards. All cards are visualized with interesting pictures characteristic of certain words. First, you can view the cards in the lesson, and then move on to training.

Looking through the cards, the word is automatically pronounced, in my female voice. Below are examples of the use of the word. By clicking on the exclamation mark at the top right, you can see other meanings of the word, and you can also add the word to a separate study in “Favorite Words” or remove the word from study (I haven’t used this service).

Selected words can then be practiced separately from lessons, just like learned words.

• After reviewing the cards, you can try guess words using practice cards.

First, they present a card with a Russian/English translation, and you must recognize this word and translate it for yourself. After clicking on any part of the screen, a translation automatically appears and the announcer pronounces the English word.

• After the cards there are training sessions, for which you can already get points. First training session "Find the word"

I thought that the workouts were graded in difficulty, but this one seems to me the most difficult of all, so I return to it when I know the words at least a little, after studying them in other workouts. This is not only a test of word knowledge, but also a test of attentiveness. After all, even if you know a word, you can’t always find it quickly.

• The second training is called "Make a Pair". Although it is the second one after “Find the Word,” I always start with it, since the first one is too difficult for unfamiliar words.

The principle here is this: you just need to click 2 cards, blue with the English word and yellow with its translation. The sequence is not strict, you can start with a yellow card, but the main thing is that the next card is an exact translation of the chosen word.

I love this workout, it's effective when you know half the words. As a result, in the end there are always those that you don’t know, and here you have to use logic and imagination, and luck sometimes saves you from choosing the right translation. But definitely after this training those words that remain last are remembered better)

• Next exercise “Gather a word”

Here a set of letters is given in a chaotic order and you need to assemble a word from them. The example is unfortunately unsuccessful, since it represents a “static” verb (which describes a state and consists of the verb be + an adjective). However, the meaning is clear.

This application helps you remember the spelling of words well, which is also important. When absolutely ALL the words in a lesson are unfamiliar to me, I start with this training.

• T training "Choose translation" .

This is one of my favorite workouts. I think everything is clear and understandable, no need to explain. By the way, words sometimes alternate; a Russian word may also be given, for which you need to choose a translation among the English variants.

• Training Collect "Audio Word".

This training just shows how correctly you hear English speech. The announcer says a word (in English, of course), and you must assemble it from the letters presented. Of course, this is a simple option, I would complicate this exercise - you need to write the word from scratch (without already known letters). This practice can be done in LiguaLeo, where you need to use the keyboard to write down the word you heard yourself.

• Training "Choose audio translation" .

Here the training is built on the principle of listening. How much can you understand English? An English word sounds, and the user must choose a translation for it from the options presented.

• Training "True-False"

Here everything is as simple as shelling pears, the correct combinations are not always specified, and the user must understand whether the translation for a given card is correct. There are two buttons available, nothing complicated.

• Final training "Memoria".

This is already a relatively difficult game, and it is also the last one. It is built on the principle of a game where you need to remember the position of identical pictures and then find them in pairs. It’s the same here, we’re just looking for related words, in other words, the word and its translation. The training consists of 2 stages of 5 words each, at first you are given 3-5 seconds to memorize.

When completing training, the user earns points.

After a minimum of 285 points are collected for each training session, the lesson is considered learned. But it’s not so easy to collect them, any mistake, no matter what kind of training, takes away points and the lesson is considered not completed, you need to train the words again.

The program tracks progress, showing how many lessons have been completed and how many words have already been learned. The number of lessons that the application shows is not always completely completed, sometimes just started. But the words always show true.
