How to mount and create a disk image in daemon tools lite. How to mount a disk image Using a disk image file

In this article we will take a detailed look at the functions of creating and mounting disk images using a tool that needs no introduction - Daemon Tools. The KiloSofta website can offer its users three versions of the product for download at once, among which Lite and Pro are the most famous and popular. We will focus on the last one and use its example to show and talk about all possible options for mounting and, of course, creating images.

The addition of “Pro” in the name of the advanced version of the virtual disk emulator Daemon Tools Pro Advanced is not used as a marketing catchphrase: there are truly professional functions here.
Among them:

  • a converter that converts existing images into one of the popular formats (ISO, MDS, NRG - there are more than a dozen options). The principle of operation is similar to converting audio from .mp3 to .wav or other containers;
  • burning discs and related work: (re-) recording, erasing, creating AudioCDs, multisessions.
Format conversion is a simple and quickly performed function (the time for this operation is limited by the speed of copying to the hard drive: processor resources are used poorly). We can only note the possibility of “password-protecting” the created image, limiting access to it. Burning physical discs is familiar from other disc burning programs – nothing particularly new. And advanced drive emulation capabilities are a topic that requires special attention. We are talking about additionally disguising the emulator as a real drive: to bypass the protection of overly smart programs that detect the presence of a virtual device. These capabilities are contained in the way disks are mounted into four different types of virtual drives.

Mounting images: 4 options

Getting started with optical disk images requires creating a virtual drive (or even several). The Pro version of DT allows you to create four types of Virtual Drive.
Creating a virtual drive - three types for optical images, one for a virtual hard disk:
  1. HDD: a convenient utility for working with virtual hard disks. Useful for fans of virtual machines, installing a second operating system, and encrypting individual parts of disk space. The same functions have already been built into Windows since version 7.
  2. DT drive. A classic virtual drive for optical disk images, familiar from the Lite version of the program. Allows you to almost always successfully emulate CD/DVD/BD.
  3. SCSI: the case when particularly secure programs do not want to run on a regular DT virtual drive. Allows you to bypass protection by creating not just a “ghost” drive, but an entire bus – a SCSI interface. In some cases, the physical drive stops working: it is enough, however, to open the computer and transfer the drive cable to another SATA port.
  4. IDE drive: Same as with SCSI. Some programs protected from virtualization (especially older versions) require the computer to have an outdated IDE drive, considering all other types of drives to be almost fraudulent.

Creating virtual IDE and SCSI drives requires a mandatory reboot of the computer. For DT drives, a restart is not required. It is the third and fourth mounting options that allow the version to be called professional.

The process of mounting images on the created drives occurs as usual: just double-click on the image file. It is more convenient, however, to use the “Image Catalog” filer window – a library with disk labels. Daemon Tools also creates a “Virtual Disk Directory” in the Explorer side menu, where shortcuts from the program filer are duplicated.

How to create images

The process of creating images in Daemon Tools is quite simple - just insert the optical media into a physical DVD drive and click the corresponding menu icon on the program panel. If there are several drives, then you need to select the one in which the disk is located and, if desired, additional parameters. A backup copy of optical discs to a hard drive is not just a backup, but also an excellent opportunity to remember old half-forgotten games, movies and other entertainment!

Creating disk images in Daemon Tools: standard speed, limited by the performance of the physical drive. It took less than 9.5 minutes to create an image of a 4.25 GB DVD.

Pay attention to the bottom panel of the main Daemon Tools Pro window: during disk creation, all information about the process is duplicated here.

Beyond the scope of this article are such interesting functions of the application as editing Virtual CD/DVD files. Hidden in the depths of the program is a full-fledged image editor that allows you to add, delete and change files inside the container. There are no special subtleties here: the editing process is approximately the same as in archivers, but the possibilities are really rich - the name Pro fully justifies itself. A similar, but no less convenient utility is also available “on board”

Hi all! As I promised in the last article, today I will write how to mount an image in daemon tools lite. I will also show you how to create a disk image using daemon tools lite. Now you can easily install downloaded games, programs and make disk images.

If daemon tools lite is not yet installed on your computer, you can read how to do this, I wrote about this .

How to mount an image in daemon tools lite

Often downloaded games or programs are a disk image in various formats such as iso, mdf and others. Having mounted the image in the daemon tools lite program, you can easily begin installing the downloaded software. I’ll explain how to do this now.

2. If the virtual drive has not been created or you want to add a few more. You must click on the “Add virtual DT drive” button. (In the free lite version you can add up to four of them)

3. When the virtual drive is created, you need to add the image. To do this, click the "Add image" button.

4. A window has opened in front of us in which we need to find the disk image on the computer and click open.

You can also open the image by double-clicking on it.

How to create a disk image in daemon tools lite

1. The first thing you need to do is insert a disc into the drive on your computer.

In this article, I would like to tell you about how to mount a disk image in Daemon Tools Lite. I chose this program for working with disk images for three reasons:

  1. It's completely free
  2. There is a Russified version.
  3. With its help, you can not only mount disk images, but also create them!

You can watch a detailed video tutorial on where to download this program from, how to install it and how to actually mount the disk image at the end of the article, but if you already have both the program and the image that needs to be mounted, then just read the instructions below.

In order to mount a disk image, run Daemon Tools if you do not have it running. He (or rather she) will appear in your notification area in the lower right corner. Now right-click on the program icon.

As shown in the figure above, move the mouse cursor to the “Virtual drives” item, now move the cursor to the “Drive 0: No data” item, by the way, this item may be called something different for you. Then the following window will appear:

Where you need to select “Mount image”.

Now you just need to find the image you want to mount and click open.

After this action, your image will open.

So with that how to open a disk image we figured it out.

By the way, just so you know, your image appeared not only in the program:

But also in the “Computer” window.

And it will remain there until you unmount it. In order to do this, go to the same path that was described above (when mounting the image), and simply click “Unmount image”

It's simple.

What is a disk image and what is it for?

Of course the question is what is a disk image and why it is needed at all is a problem for many people. But really, why can’t you just install what you want to open in the image on your computer? Or open it without installing it at all.

There are some programs that only work when the disk with this program is inserted into the drive. There are a huge number of such programs, and it makes no sense to have disks from them with you (for example, if this program can be useful to you only once). For this purpose, formats were invented that simulate a disk in a disk drive, and they were called disk images. That is, in order to run a program that does not start without a disk, it is enough to find the image.

By the way, most often images are needed in order to be able to mount the game image. Yes, yes, it is the players who find this technique (mounting disks) most often useful.

And now the promised video lesson.

P.S. The whole time I was recording, they were making fun of me, so I couldn’t cut out the laughter everywhere, I’m sorry ;)…

Everyone who has ever tried to mount ISO images knows that DAEMON Tools Lite is free, smart and easy-to-use imaging software. February 26, 2015, the brand-new version of this well-known application hit the web.

I"d like to try all new features in action and explain how to mount an image with upgraded DAEMON Tools Lite 5.

How to mount an image with Quick Mount option in new DAEMON Tools Lite

DAEMON Tools Lite 5 introduces a new way to mount disc images. It becomes much easier and handier! Let me remind you how DAEMON Tools Lite worked previously. To mount ISO images, you had to perform two steps: create a virtual device first and mount it with a selected file then.

Now everything is pretty simple, cause DAEMON Tools Lite does the whole work. You choose an image to mount and the application creates and emulates a virtual drive. Just mount ISO images and forget about the details!

Let's see how to mount with DAEMON Tools Lite 5.

For those who cannot imagine their life without computer games, the daemon tools program is known firsthand. Gamers know about the ability of daemon tools to quickly cope with almost all game copy protection. Why with almost everyone? But everything is clear to game producers, who are trying to fight this and protect their creations from mass distribution. For those who have not yet understood, you need the daemon tools program when you downloaded a game or software, and without the original disk they do not run on the computer.

How to mount an image in daemon tools - instructions

Sometimes users encounter some problems while working with daemon tools, for example, how to mount an image in daemon tools. If you figure it out and follow the instructions, in reality everything will not be so difficult. To explain to you how to solve this problem, we will tell you how to work with daemon tools, and accordingly, how to mount an image in daemon tools:

  1. First of all, you will need the program itself. If it is missing, you will need to download it. You can do this here DAEMON Tools Lite.exe (11.2 MB). This version of the program (Lite) is free.
  2. We think there will be no problems during the installation of daemon tools. You just need to click “yes” or “next” everywhere.
  3. After installation, look down at the taskbar at the bottom of the monitor. An icon for the daemon tools program should have appeared somewhere next to the clock.
  4. Now you will need to right-click on this icon and select “Virtual CD/DVD-ROM” from the menu that appears.
  5. In the new window, click on “drive”, and then on “mount image”.
  6. And now the most interesting thing: in front of you is a window in which you should indicate the path to the image. Remember where you downloaded the image from the Internet, you just need to find this folder and click on this image in it. After this, the program automatically emulates it onto a virtual disk.

Thus, you have learned how to mount an image in daemon tools. And a virtual disk with the game appears on your computer. You will always find this virtual disk in “My Computer”. In addition to games, similar problems can occur with some software. The method of action is similar to this one.

Some people advise to always mount the image using daemon tools, because the standard disk burning wizard in Windows often writes data incorrectly or even damages disks. And as you already understand, everyone can work with daemon tools.
