Why is the red light on the Rostelecom router: reasons and what to do? Rostelecom and PON technology The red light on the modem is lit

If your router does not work, then there is no need to rush to buy a new one or contact a repair shop. There are some things that the administrator or user can do themselves, and the router does not need to be disassembled to do this.

First you need to check if the power supply is working. In 90% of cases, it is this unit that is plugged into the outlet that is to blame. The voltage at its output can be equal to 5V, but if under load it sags to 3.5V, this is no longer acceptable. Let's look at how to perform the check and what needs to be done next.

Intel router power connector

At home, it is usually not possible to test the power supply under load. Even if you have a multimeter, it is useless to connect it to the output connector - without a load everything looks “almost perfect”. The power supply is usually checked by replacement. You can even connect the tested power supply to another device designed for the same voltage as the router. But you need to take into account that the current consumption must be less than the rated value for which the power supply is designed. Current strength is indicated in Amperes, voltage in Volts.

Do I need to restore the firmware?

To carry out initial diagnostics, you will need a working power supply that is compatible with the router being repaired. If you have one, supply power to the router without connecting the network cables. All connectors (WAN, LAN and even antenna) must be left empty. After a minute you need to see how the light bulbs behave. The device may be in firmware recovery mode.

First, just connect the power

Let's list the “symptoms” of recovery mode:

  • For ASUS routers – the “Power” lamp blinks slowly, the “Wi-Fi” indicator does not light up
  • For TP-Link devices - all lamps blink, turning on and off at the same time
  • For D-Link routers, the power indicator blinks orange
  • For all routers: it doesn’t matter whether all the lamps blink or just one, but the blinking period is always 1-1.5 seconds.

If recovery mode is already enabled, you cannot remove the device from it. Or rather, the procedure for this output involves installing the firmware. You need to find the firmware file that matches the model and hardware revision of the device (the value is indicated on the sticker).

Router DI-624, revision D2

Not all firmware, even branded ones, are compatible with Recovery Mode.

Let's look at how to get the router out of “Recovery” mode, that is, how to install the firmware:

  • For D-Link devices (except for the oldest models), a recovery console is provided, accessible via a standard IP address. Only now, since the router’s DHCP server does not work, the network card is configured to “static”, and then they try to open the web interface.
  • For ASUS routers, the role of the recovery page is performed by the “Firmware Restoration” utility. Having configured the network card to static values, the router is connected to the PC with a patch cord, but instead of the browser, the utility is then launched.
  • For ZyXEL devices, everything looks more complicated - you need to install a TFTP server. Details are discussed here: zyxel.ru/kb/2146.
  • For TP-Link devices, except for the latest models, as well as for D-Link devices of older models, the only method is suitable - you need to connect a UART cable. The UART connector is located under the housing cover, and it is better to perform restoration in a service center.

All recommendations listed above are “software” repair methods. But, nevertheless, you can use them only at your own peril and risk. Having determined that the “Recovery Mode” is active, you can take the router to the service center. The duration of firmware recovery is 10 minutes, unless additional problems arise during the process.

We diagnose the router ourselves

After supplying power to the router, you need to observe the behavior of the light bulbs. We discussed above how Recovery Mode behaves. In general, the most important thing is that the “Power” indicator is on. If it doesn't light up, check the power supply. Each router connector is connected in turn to a working network device. The role of this device can be performed by a computer to which the patch cord is connected, and the indicators should respond predictably to the connection. When power is supplied to the router, cables cannot be connected.

Port light does not light up

Sometimes the hardware port to which the ISP cable was connected burns out and stops working. It’s not difficult to find out if this is true: let’s say the “LAN/network” lights respond adequately to the presence of a connection, but the “WAN” indicator fails to light up. Most likely, in this case the WAN port has burned out.

Indicators on the TP-Link router

You can try to set up a “bridge” between the WAN port and any of the remaining LAN connectors, which is then used for an Internet connection. This option, by the way, is not suitable for routers with a hardware switch installed.

Let’s say the provider’s cable is connected to the WAN port, but the “WAN/Internet” indicator does not light up. Does this indicate that the port is faulty? Not at all necessary. Before checking, make sure that there is no problem on the provider's side. A sign of a faulty cable is an exclamation mark on the connection icon that you configure on your computer. When using ADSL, the problem becomes more complicated: to check the cable you need a working modem.

Reset settings, use Ping

Many people know that to reset the settings you need to press the reset button located on the router case. This button is held until the lights blink. Of course, it is better to perform such a reset by disconnecting all cables and waiting a minute after turning on the power supply. But a “true” factory reset is the 30/30/30 method. The reset button, or reset and restore, must be held down not for 10-15 seconds, as in the first case, but for exactly 30. Then, disconnect the power supply connector and wait another 30 seconds. After connecting the power, you need to wait another half a minute, and only then the button can be released.

Hold reset, power supply is disconnected

By performing a reset using the 30/30/30 method, we will get the device in the same form as it left the factory.

This means that everything else needs to be done according to the official instructions. You can also learn how to set the IP address assigned to the network card from the instructions downloaded from the official website. Usually they do this: the router’s IP is 192.168.1.1, which means we set the value ending with the numbers 1.2. Well, and the like.

Setting up a wired computer connection

When the LAN port is connected to the PC using a patch cord, the router should respond to ping. In the console, you can run the ping –t command. The “Waiting interval exceeded” responses will come first, and then when the download is complete, the command output should change.

If this does not happen, it means that you will not receive ping responses at all. But it is not a fact that in this case you will need to solder something. The problem may be completely software-based, although it cannot be solved at home.

Router and power supply repair

Not long ago, I came across an ADSL modem D link DSL-2500U, I thought why not write an article on the topic of connecting to the Internet via an adsl modem. This model is most popular among home networks, and is just suitable for a universal example.

This article will help you connect your ADSL modem to the Internet yourself, without calling a specialist.

I'll say a few words about this model...

  • The ADSL DSL-2500U router provides an inexpensive, high-performance Internet connection; its cost ranges from 800-1000 rubles.
  • Includes the security functions required today (firewall against hacker attacks) and QoS (Quality of Service) technology aimed at more efficient data transfer.
  • Equipped with an Ethernet LAN port that can be connected to a computer or router to share broadband Internet access with other users.
  • The high-speed ADSL2/2+ interface allows you to accelerate the Internet to 24 Mbit/s for the downstream stream, i.e. on downloading from the Internet, and up to 1 Mbit/s for the upstream data stream, i.e. data sent by our computer to the network.

This concludes the review of the capabilities of the ADSL DSL-2500U modem. Actually, what else is needed for a simple Internet connection.

Connecting an adsl modem (universal instructions)

1. Connect the modem to the computer’s network card using a network cable (usually blue with RJ-45 connectors). We connect the modem to the network. We connect a telephone line to the telephone jack (RJ-11) on the modem.

2. Check the local network connection. Open the Start menu, enter “View network connections” in the search field (this is the easiest way to open a window with network connections) and click on the View network connections link in the list.

In the network connections window, select Local Area Connection and open the context menu, in it click on the Properties link. In the Local Area Connection Properties window, select the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) component and click the Properties button. In the Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) window, on the General tab, make sure that the Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain a DNS server address automatically are selected. Click on the OK button.

Local Area Connection - Properties

3. Open the browser, in my case it’s Firefox, and enter the URL (http://192.168.1.1) in the address field to access the modem via the web interface. In the Authentication window, enter the Username - admin, in the Password field - admin (they are given in the technical documentation for the modem).

4. If the Username and Password are entered correctly, you will be taken to a new window and taken to the Quick Setup page. Now we will configure the modem in router mode, this means that the connection to the Internet will occur automatically when the modem is turned on.

In the Quick Setup window, if you switched to it automatically (otherwise, click on the Quick Setup section in the menu on the left), uncheck the DSL Auto-connect parameter, we will set the ATM PVC parameters manually.

5. Set the parameters in the VPI and VCI fields. It's best to check with your provider as they vary from region to region. In my case, these are parameters 0-35 (Murmansk region, MELS Telecom provider), the remaining parameters are left unchanged. Click on the Next button.

6. In the next Connection Type window, from the proposed list of protocols for IP, select PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE). Set the Encapsulation Mode parameter to LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING. Click on the Next button.

7. In the PPP Username and Password window, enter the login in the Username fields, and the password in the Password field. They are given to us by the provider after concluding a contract for broadband Internet service. Check the box next to Keep alive PPP connection. The remaining parameters can be left as default. Pay attention to the MTU value, it should not exceed 1500, it is better to set 1492. Click on the Next button.

8. In the next Network Address translation Settings window, set the security parameters. Check the boxes next to Enable Nat and Firewall. We leave the remaining parameters unchanged at their default settings. Click the Next button.

9. In the next window of device settings (Device Setup), leave all parameters unchanged and click Next.

10. In the final WAN Setup –Summary window, all that remains is to check whether all parameters are set correctly. Click the Save/Reboot button.

The modem will reboot, after which the parameters we set will be saved. The DSL Router Reboot window will notify us about this. There is no need to interrupt this procedure; you need to wait until the modem saves the parameters. Typically this takes about 1-2 minutes.

After rebooting, the modem will automatically open the Device Info page, where information about the DSL connection will be provided. If all fields of the table are filled in, it means that the parameters are set correctly; if not, the modem did not connect to the network as expected. Then it's worth check the previously entered Login and Password again. They must be entered without spaces and case sensitive (upper and lowercase letters).

Pay attention to the front panel with indicators. When configured correctly, all five indicators should glow green. Pay special attention to the Internet parameter; after rebooting the modem, it first lights up red, and then after a few seconds (no more than 1-2 minutes) lights up green, this indicates that access to the Internet has been obtained.

This completes the modem setup. But before you close the web control panel, let's be on the safe side. change the password to access the modem settings, which is set by default.

1. Click in the management menu on the Management ->Access Control ->Passwords tab.

2. In the Access Control – Passwords window, leave the Username field unchanged, and enter the old password in the Old password fields (given in the instructions for the modem or on the modem itself), and enter the new password in the New and Confirm Password fields, having previously written it down somewhere. something or remembering.

3. Click on the Save/Apply button. After this, the new password will be saved and the authentication window will open.

4. We did not change the user name, so enter “admin” (or the one given in the instructions for the modem), and in the Password field we indicate the new password. Clicks OK. If the password is entered correctly, we will go to the modem control panel.

Close the browser. The parameters we specified were saved in the modem. Now open the browser again and enter the URL of any site in the address field, for example, google.ru, if the site opens, everything is in order, the modem is configured correctly, if not, read on.

If the modem does not connect and website pages do not open?

First, you need to look at the indicators on the front panel of the modem; they can be a starting point in finding a connection problem.

1. If all five indicators are green, it means Internet access has been obtained. The problem of lack of access to sites can be caused by the following reasons:

  • The problem is in the operating system (it is better to solve it with the help of an experienced person)
  • The provider has a problem on the communication line (it can be solved by calling and checking with them about the availability of repair work).

2. If only three indicators Power, Status and LAN are green, and DSL and Internet are not lit, most likely there is a problem on the line or you simply were not connected to the ADSL service. The problem can be solved by simply calling your provider and asking whether they have connected you to the Internet or not.

3. If the four indicators Power, Status and LAN and DSL are green, and the Internet is red or does not light at all, the modem settings were probably set incorrectly (for example, Login and Password or the VPI and VCI parameters, which can be checked with your provider).

In this case, we do the following:

1. Go to the modem web control panel.

2. In the panel menu, select the Advanced Setup->WAN section.

3. The Wide WAN Setup window displays the profile of the previously configured WAN interface. Click on the Edit button.

4. A window for changing previously entered values will open. We check with the provider the VPI and VCI values and enter them in the appropriate fields. Click the Next button and check in the following windows and, if necessary, change the parameters to those that were given earlier in this article. Pay special attention to entering your login and password. They must be entered without spaces and taking into account capital and lowercase letters.

5. Reboot the modem and save the settings.

6. Wait until the Internet indicator on the front panel turns green before you can open web pages.

If the above methods did not help you troubleshoot the problem when connecting the modem to the Internet, you can resort to another method, who has helped me more than once in setting up such devices.

It is necessary to reset all previously set values to the factory values, i.e. those with which it falls into our hands upon purchase (unless, of course, no one has set it up before or it has not been repaired).

1. On the back panel of the modem, in addition to the power button, there is a small hole for resetting settings. Disconnect the network and telephone wires, turn on the modem, take a paper clip, straighten it and insert it into this hole, thereby pressing a small, inconspicuous button, hold it for 5-10 seconds. At this time, the modem indicators should go out for a few seconds and light up again.

2. Turn off the modem, connect the wires and turn it on again. Wait for the local network connection to be established.

3. Configure the modem again (from points 1 to 10).

This connection example is universal and fits 99% of ADSL modems, regardless of the manufacturer and control interface. The main thing is to adhere to the parameters that are given in the screenshots. There are a lot of types of interfaces, the same models, but with different firmware, and the main parameters still remain unchanged.

Home Internet users from Rostelecom occasionally wonder why the red light on the modem is on and what problems this may indicate. Router malfunctions can cause significant harm, causing negative emotions from the inability to work or have fun online. A serious breakdown of the device will lead to a complete loss of functionality and, accordingly, to a lack of Internet access. To understand the steps necessary for self-repair, you first need to find the cause of the breakdown. If possible, the service center specialists will also ask you to report it when sending the device for service.

Internet using a Wi-Fi network from Rostelecom in rural areas.

On a Rostelecom router, the red light may be on due to the influence of factors such as:

  • mechanical damage to the modem structure;

  • incorrect configuration or reset of all tasks;

  • fluctuations in power grids and limited Internet access;

  • overheating of some router parts (observed only in samples that have been in use for a long time and need to be replaced).

Attention! Internet users from Rostelecom who are wondering why the red light is on on the router should contact support for help to find out exactly why and what to do next.

You can call the support service using the hotline numbers, available 24 hours a day.

If the red light on the modem comes on after sudden voltage changes, there are two possible solutions to the situation. The most likely failure is a wiring problem. In this case, you will need to partially or completely replace the contact wires, which is quite problematic to do at home.

The second option is the combustion of important elements, for example, a power supply. In this case, the red light on the Rostelecom modem may not light up at all or slowly fade out. The solution to this problem most often lies in completely replacing the device.

Windows 10 to the Rostelecom Internet network.

You can view the list of USSD commands from your mobile operator here.

The question of why the red indicator is on on the Rostelecom router has several possible answers. Lost software settings can be corrected using prompts in the interface. Hardware breakdowns require a professional approach and replacement of parts in the structure itself. Remember that the outcome of the situation depends on its complexity. If you are not confident in your abilities and knowledge, call technical support and have a technician come to your home.

It has a special platform at the bottom for laying optical fiber and sleeve. To remove the pad, you need to move it to the bottom in the direction from the wi-fi antennas.

1. An SC/APC optical connector is connected to the OPTICAL port. Like the picture above.

For the optical cable to function properly, its bending radius must be more than 30 mm.

2. Using a network cable, connect the PC to Ethernet input 1 or 2. IPTV STB set-top boxes are connected to Ethernet 3 and 4

3. Using a telephone cable, connect the phone to tel1

4. Press the ON/OFF button.

5. Press the WLAN button to turn on Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi is disabled by default.

To access the terminal settings via a web browser, you need to type in the address bar of the browser. 192.168.100.1. Don’t forget to set the network card settings to receive an IP address automatically. Or register an IP address from 192.168.100.2 to 192.168.100.251. If you don't know how to do this, read.

To set up Wi-Fi on the Huawei HG8245H terminal, read everything described in detail there.

Wireless network coverage by this device depends on the quantity, thickness of material and location of walls, ceilings and other objects through which radio signals pass.

To increase the coverage area of your wireless network, you can use the following methods:

1. Reduce the number of walls between the HG8245H and other devices. Install the HG8245H in a location where radio signals do not have to pass through walls if possible.

2. Install network devices so that they are in direct line of sight to each other. The signal transmission distance at an angle of 45 degrees, through two walls 0.5 m thick, is about one meter.

3. Please note that building materials will affect wireless coverage. Metal doors or aluminum walls reduce the coverage area. Objects such as fiberglass and metal, insulating partitions, filing cabinets, brick and concrete reduce the strength of radio signals.

If all the indicators are lit correctly, but there is no Internet connection on all devices, then try rebooting the terminal.

Problems occur due to glitches in the firmware of the HG8245H terminal. If you know how to download firmware for a router, you can use this firmware. Just be careful, this firmware is only suitable for the white HG8245H terminal; if you download it to another terminal, there may be dire consequences. Here is the download link

Just yesterday everything was working perfectly: Odnoklassniki opened, Youtube was shown, movies were downloaded and there was no sign of trouble. And today the red Internet light is on on the router! Why, and most importantly - what to do, where to run, who to call?! How to restore normal operation of the router and regain normal access to the World Wide Web.

The "Internet" indicator (and on some models - "Status") is usually made in the form of a globe, or a "dog" icon, or a circle with the letter "i" in the center. It displays the current connection status with the provider's equipment. Green color means everything is fine. But the red color of the indicator indicates that there are some problems with the connection, namely that the router cannot connect to the Internet. Why? Here are the main reasons:

1. The provider cable is not connected

Be sure to check that the cable that comes into your home from the telecom operator’s equipment is connected to the router. The port it should be connected to is usually signed as Internet or WAN:

When this cable is not connected, the Internet indicator on the router will also light red. If the cable is connected, then take the time to check its entire length for damage.

2. Connection settings are lost

There are times when, due to the pranks of household inhabitants or power surges in the power supply network, the modem or router can reset its settings. After that, it naturally cannot connect to the provider and the red light on the router lights up - there is no Internet.

It's very easy to check. The only condition is that you must know in advance what parameters are used to set up an Internet connection with your telecom operator. Most providers in Russia (Rostelecom, TTK, Dom.ru, Tattelecom) use the PPPoE protocol with authorization via login and password. To check your router, you first need to go into its settings through a web browser using the IP address or to log in. If you don’t know how to do this, the instructions will help you.

In the device configurator menu, find the section responsible for connecting to the Internet. Usually it is called WAN or Internet. Next, in the parameters, find the line “Connection type” - you need to put the value in it PPPoE. The following fields will become available for setting up authorization:

You need to enter your login and password for connections in the appropriate fields. They are usually issued to subscribers at the time of concluding an agreement to connect to the provider. After that, click on the “Apply” or “Save” button for the settings to take effect.

3. Problems on the provider side

The provider may also experience various network problems. As a result of these problems, the Internet indicator on the router will also light red. In this case, there is only one solution - call technical support. If the problem is global, at the city or district level, then you will be informed about it. If the problem is local, at the level of your home switch, then the sooner you report it, the faster the provider’s employees will take action. The fact is that they have certain requirements for the timing of troubleshooting.
